Summer has Come to an end :-(

Well, its official. Summer vacation is over. Back to the school routine tomorrow, getting things ready for Wednesday. We only have two days of preplanning this year so Ill be super busy for the next two days. Its a good thing I went in and set up my room last week. Now I have to get everything organized and cleaned up for the kiddos on wednesday.

At this point, Im a bit stressed. I don't have enough desks in my room for one thing. And another, my baby starts Pre-K this year. God only knows how ill react to dropping her off on Wednesday. It makes me sad but still happy that she's starting a new part of life. I only wish she could be attending the school where I teach. Hopefully, and opening will come up in the next couple of weeks and she can come to school with me. That will make me feel a lot better.

I went out for some supplies today and did pretty well at Walmart. They had alot of stuff on sale and I even price matched a few ads with Office Depot. A five pack of sharpies for $1.00, thats pretty good if you ask me. Coupons have begun to infiltrate every aspect of my life at this point. Always looking for a deal!

Summer Slump

Well, its official. My summer is not going to be long enough! Its a mere three weeks until the school year starts up again. Im looking forward to going back to school, but the couch potato in me just wants to stay on the sofa at all times. Headed for the beach in two weeks and I can't wait... I wish my husband's vacation days kicked in earlier in the year. It stinks going to the beach in August! Its gonna be super hot!

I keep trying to wrap my mind around the return to school. Theres much that needs to be done but I have yet to start on any of it. I guess its a good thing i still have three weeks then.

The End

The school year has come to a close. I wasn't the only one dancing on the sidewalk as those buses rolled out of the parking lot. Seeing fifth graders cry is always heartbreaking--they seem so grown up until the realize that they are leaving the only school they have ever known.

Another week of postplanning and the year will be through for me. Im hoping for a better summer than the last and a nice vacation to somewhere covered in sand and water. Maybe Myrtle Beach.Headed out to dinner with the family and then off to a barbecue tomorrow..

A New Batch!

Well, the school year has begun again. After a long summer of hospital stays and caring for my husband after surgery, I have to say I was pretty ready to return to work. My new group of kids arrived last Friday, wide eyed and quiet as church mice..But they have settled in and the environment has started to change.

We stepped right into curriculum and procedures to get us going in this new school year. Third graders are so immature at the beginning, but they really grow and change quickly. I have a great class so far...with a few stinkers.. But nothing I can't handle. New students arrive every now and then and we just push in another desk, I have more kids this year but they all seem to be very well behaved.

Ive had a few criers, but the tears dry up quickly as the tissue box empties. Much of my curriculum is currently below grade level and we're moving slowly, but growth happens quickly in this grade level so Im looking forward to seeing them change.

A HUGE mess

Today was a great day until the weather started. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain pelted the school from around 10 this morning and is still falling. Of course the kids were super excited but it left me with nothing but worry.

The roads were icing and becoming impassable around 12:00. The three counties around us had already sent students home. Did our schools release? No, we stayed until around 2:00 and then they FINALLY decided that we might oughta leave. So after getting all of the kids ready and out the door--it came time for me to go.

I live in another county, thirty miles from school. Roads were so bad, my normal 25 minute commute took a grand total of an hour and a half. Interstate driving at 25 miles per hour, coupled with eighteen wheelers whizzing by like there's no tomorrow, makes me want to move to Florida--where things like this don't happen. Im sick of winter. The kids are tired of indoor recess. Come on Mother Nature!! Give us Georgians a break!!

Special Guests!

Hello all-- I got some good news today from the local Humane Society.

Our school does a Club Day for our students. Once per month the kids go to their clubs and get to do fun art and craft activities. There are clubs of all sorts--line dancing, cooking, cheerleading, karate, etc. Of course I have no talent so I can't do any of those...But I do sew...

My club is based on community service crafting. My idea was to have the kids make blankets/beds/toys for the animals at our local humane society. I didnt think I would be able to arrange a visit from some of the organizers but I got the call today that they are coming!! They're going to bring in 4 dogs and give a presentation on animal health. Then we'll get to give them their toys and blankets. I am super excited and Im sure my kids will be when they hear!! I just had to share.
